Find a New Best Friend

We update the list of available dogs as adoptions occur and as new dogs arrive, so please keep checking for the latest information.  All dogs listed below are still available unless otherwise noted.  If you would like to adopt from CCLRR, please go to the Adopt page to read about our adoption process. All dogs are tested prior to entering our program, however you will want to introduce your dog before adopting. Shelters do not test with cats and not all foster homes have cats so if a bio does not specifically say "Cat Friendly," we do not know and a proper introduction is recommended. Please check our Courtesy Postings as well!

Lyndy
Yellow Female
6 Years
  • Housebroken

  • Good with other dogs

  • Needs another confident dog to play with

Lyndy is a 6-year old female lab. She’s an extremely sweet girl, very relaxed and easy to be around, but always ready for a walk, a ride in the car or a fun game of fetch.  She’s very lean and agile. She walks nicely on a leash, although the ground squirrels sometimes distract her, and she takes treats gently. She is great with other dogs and plays well with them. She retrieves AND drops the toy for you to throw it again. Lyndy has no issues around food or toys. She knows basic commands, and catches on quickly. Like most labs, she likes being around her people and loves being pet. I have yet to hear her bark. It took her a while to figure out that the dog beds are for her, so I don’t know how much time she spent inside, but her house manners are great and she is housebroken.  Contact Cathy 925.303.0509

Roscoe
Yellow Male
7 Years
  • Housebroken

  • Good with other dogs

  • Rides well in car

We want to introduce you to Roscoe, a happy 7 year old yellow lab. Unfortunately until very recently Roscoe lived outside. He is recovering from double ear infections and inflamed skin in between his toes and body. Roscoe is much more comfortable now since having foot soaks (who doesn't love a pedicure) and some medicated baths. He’s living in luxury, as he should. 🐾

He is happy and super sweet, not an aggressive bone in his body and he gets along great with his foster brother, who is a 6 year old male lab. He is a big boy, at 85 lbs. and as you can imagine, has no idea of his size. If he had his way, he would lay on you, just to be close to you! He knows basic commands, walks well on a leash and will go into a crate if you want him to. He responds well to other cues, like off and down and with a little work will master all commands. He also rides great in a car and is not a barker. Just a happy boy who wants to be loved and be with you. Take a chance with this sweet guy and give him the home he deserves! You won’t regret it. Pearl
Black Female
10 Months

UPDATE: Pearl is a black female lab mix, eager to find her forever home after a rough start in life. She and her siblings were dumped in a parking lot. We’re not sure what life was like before that, but she’s terrified of leashes and riding in the car (her foster mom is working on that). The vet thinks Pearl and her siblings are about 10 months old, but won’t be very big. She currently weighs about 50 pounds and has a few more months of growing to do. Pearl promises to repay her forever humans with years of cuddling and loyalty for helping her work on her confidence. She sleeps on the bed with her humans, cuddled as close as she can get. Pearl loves playing with dogs and needs at least one confident dog partner to help her learn the ropes. She’s mostly housetrained and busy catching up on puppy antics of playing, chewing, digging, and dog wresting, so lots of chew toys and supervision are a must. Pearl is not aggressive to cats, but can’t understand why her barks and play bows don’t entice them to play with her. Pearl has lived with large and small dogs, cats, and a dad and teenage human in her foster home. She loves everyone in her foster home, but takes a little longer to warm up to men. Contact Cathy 925.303.0509

NEEDS for Pearl - other confident, playful dogs, no kids under 10 yrs (loud, fast movements scare her), plan in place if left alone over 5 hours (someone to come in such as a dog walker, doggie day care, etc.)

Toffee
Chocolate Female
10 Months

Toffee is a chocolate femal lab mix. She is initially shy when meeting new people, but warms up quickly with humans and dogs. She is gentle and loves being around her humans and other dogs. She loves attention from her human. She has been around a cat and showed no aggression. She loves playing chase and tag with her active foster brother and sisters - she plays well. She respects when the older dog does not want to play or be around her puppy energy. She takes feedback from humans and dogs. Toffee is eager to learn and easy to train. Toffee is all about comfort. She has found the outdoor lounge chair or the grass is great for relaxing or taking a nap. She also curls up for quiet time in the living room chairs. Toffee has not exhibited food or toy aggression. She puts herself to bed in her crate at night and will sleep through the night. She likes curling up with a stuffed animal to sleep. She does come out of the crate to get a good night rub behind her ear or a belly rub. She is excellent at relaxing and keeping quiet in my home office during the day with her foster siblings, with intermittent outside play breaks. Toffee is housebroken. She needs to have family with at least one other confident dog and time to devote to her.  Contact Cathy 925.303.0509

Amara
Black Female
2 Years
  • House trained

Meet Adorable Amara!  Amara is a beautiful, sweet and playful 2 year-old black lab who came to our rescue neglected and sick with kennel cough. She is now healthy and ready for her forever family. Amara just learned to fetch, and she absolutely loves it! She is mostly housebroken, has very nice indoor manners (no counter surfing, etc.), knows “sit” and “come” and is eager to learn! She is a little shy at first, but will nap next to you once she feels comfortable. She is very smart and curious, loves to go on walks and sniff everything and is working on her leash manners and excitement when she sees new dogs. Off leash, she is great and has no aggression issues at all. She will thrive with families that can give her the structure she needs and who have active lives. Contact Simona (530) 400-1174.

Lily
Chocolate Female
3 Months
  • House trained

  • Crate trained

  • Good with other dogs

Lily, a delightful three-month-old chocolate Labrador, brings an abundance of joy and energy to any environment! Her remarkable intelligence is evident in her quick mastery of commands such as sit, lay, stay, and wait, and she is currently honing her skills with the roll-over trick. Lily has also developed a commendable habit of signaling when she needs to go outside, showcasing her eagerness to learn and adapt. At night, she peacefully sleeps in her crate, although she has a soft spot for snuggling in the big bed, where she feels most comfortable. This playful pup has a knack for choosing toys over nipping, demonstrating her growing understanding of appropriate play behavior. She interacts wonderfully with other dogs and is friendly towards everyone she meets. Among her favorite things are the color purple, peanut butter training treats, bully sticks (safely secured in a holder), and, of course, the joy of belly rubs and praise for her good behavior. Kirk
Black Male
8 Months

Kirk is a 35 pound, 8 month old black lab mix who had a tough life before making his way to CCLRR. He has evidence of both neglect and trauma. His wrists are over-extended and his front paws appear very long, which suggests very poor nutrition during his fast growing puppyhood. He also presented to the shelter with a left rear leg fracture. He is on the mend but his bones are knitting together a little wonky and he may experience arthritis earlier in life than if he had not experienced neglect early on. Despite all this, Kirk is a friendly, sweet, engaging young boy. He’s a little cautious in new situations, but is forever hopeful that the world is a kind, loving place. He is housebroken, crate-trained and has a gentle mouth. He is curious and respectful of cats. What Kirk really, really loves is people… he wants to be close, he wants to please, he checks in frequently and relishes attention. He plays well with his foster sister and has learned to love a good chew bone. He’s learning how to walk on a leash and a few commands. Kirk will be a great buddy to go anywhere and everywhere with you. Contact Chava (916) 296-6644

Titan
Yellow Male
1-2 Years

Titan is a lab mix who came from Kern County Shelter. During his short time in a foster home, he has shown that he is a true gem. He is smart, housebroken, knows sit, working on wait, LOVES children and sleeps through the night in his crate or on the bedroom floor. He doesn't jump up on the furniture unless invited. Doesn't counter surf. even with tempting stuff left out. LOVES car rides and acts like a true gentleman in the car, so much so that he doesn't like to get out once he's home. For a younger lab, he has a calm energy when inside and is content to just lay in whatever room his human happens to be in. He does pull when he first starts out on walks but after a mile or so, he relaxes. He has only encountered one other dog while at his fosters and seemed very excited to engage in play. He would probably like a doggie friend, but would also do ok on his own. He has only been left for very short periods and doesn't like being left alone crated, so this is something his forever family will have to continue to work on with him. He is very food/treat motivated so that should help. What are you waiting for? This guy is a real love! Contact Cathy 925.303.0509
